What Is Ganesh Visarjan?

Lord Ganesha is the Hindu religion’s emblem. He is also referred to as Gajanand or Ganpati Bappa.

For ten days, people celebrate Ganesh Visarjan. They are excited and beaming as they bring Bappa home. The Ganesha event marks the beginning of a happy life and contributes to it.

However, as it is time to say goodbye on the final day, the devotees miss their beloved Bappa.

On the day of Ganesh Visarjan, they don’t like to say goodbye to Bappa. It is difficult to go past the Ganesh Utsava memories and participate in Ganpati Visarjan.

“Ganpati Bappa Morya and Pudhchya Varshi Laukariya” are enthusiastically chanted by the crowd.

Therefore, Lord Ganesha will arrive quickly the following year. The devotees of Ganesh put on lavish celebrations and performed the Visarjan ritual while dancing and singing bhajans.

At the Visarjan location, you might see some sad faces and teary eyes. Until Bappa returns to their homes the following year, followers will miss him.

People who couldn’t bring their Lord Ganesha murti perform Ganesh Puja at their homes.

History Of Ganesh Visarjan

Vinayak Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations were further expanded by Shivaji. The Peshwas began hosting public festivities in Pune during the Bhadrapada month in the 18th century.

Nevertheless, under British rule, these occasions were only celebrated at home. Bal Gangadhar Tilak revived the custom of neighbourhood gatherings in 1893 so that other freedom fighters might join forces with him and plan attacks on the British.

Ganesh Visarjan 2025

These neighbourhood gatherings were known as Sarvajanik Utsav. In addition, he urged non-Brahmins and Brahmins to interact during these festivities.

The idols, however, were created and immersed on the same day every day for a full month during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The culmination of this would be communal feasts and celebrations. Later, some continued this tradition for a whole month, but wealthy families relocated to keep the idol for a period of 1.5, 3, 5, or 10 days.

Reason To Celebrate Ganesh Visarjan

When Ganesh is immersed or when Ganesh Visarjan is performed at home, the followers of Lord Ganesha shout enthusiastically, “Ganpati Bappa Morya.”

While performing Ganpati Visarjan both inside and outside, they also recite the Ganpati Stotra.

During Ganesh Visarjan 2025, people don’t want to miss their final opportunity to see their beloved Lord Ganesha.

Devotees arrive at the location of Visarjan to bid Lord Ganesha goodbye while listening to loud bands and Ganesh Bhajans.

Lord Ganesha’s devotees perform Ganesh Visarjan to represent his life and form. Constructed of clay, he was made using the same material that is used to create the Ganesh sculptures.

On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, devotees submerged the Ganesha statue in the water. People conduct visarjan to say goodbye to Lord Ganesh when he returns to his home.

Significance Of Ganesh Visarjan

It is claimed that Lord Ganesha visits his parents (Lord Ganesha Family), Lord Shiva, and Goddess Parvati on Mount Kailash through the Ganesha Visarjan.

His followers revere the Lord’s spiritual and heavenly nature on this day. It commemorates Ganesha’s trip from ‘Aakar’ to ‘Nirakaar’.

It is the only festival in the Hindu religion that honours both the physical and spiritual (formless) manifestations of the All-Powerful.

This holiday emphasizes the temporary nature of everything in life as well as the significance of the cycle of birth, life, and death. Ganpati, the God of new beginnings, is revered for removing all barriers to success.

Ganpati, revered as the God of new beginnings, carries away all the challenges facing the home and the family during the time of Visarjan.

It is likely one of the most important holidays, widely anticipated by all facets of society.

Rituals Performed During Ganesh Visarjan

The Puja Vidhi is a way for followers of Lord Ganesha to say goodbye to their favourite deity. Following these steps, people do Lord Ganesha Puja for Ganesh Visarjan:

With all of the family and relatives present, the Puja begins with Lord Ganesha’s Aarti in the early morning.

For Prasad, devotees use Modak, a home-cooked sweet, and present Lord Ganesha with flowers.

After the Aarti, people proceed to the Visarjan location and collect Lord Ganesha’s idol. Make sure to move the idol towards yourself before picking it up.

It denotes that the 10-day festival must come to an end because Visarjan time has arrived, and Bappa must do so.

Pray to Lord Ganesha and thank him for visiting your home and providing solutions to all of your troubles.

Offer Lord Ganesha some akshat, which is uncooked rice. Additionally, rub some Dahi on his hands for prosperity.

On the day of Visarjan, people tie a crimson cloth with coconut, jaggery, and grains in it, as Lord Ganesha goes.

This meal will satisfy Lord Ganesha during the arduous journey back home. The water douses the person conducting the Puja Vidhi for Ganapati Visarjan.

Before leaving on the day of Visarjan, give Lord Ganesha one more tour of your house. To increase energy, recite mantras and Ganpati Bappa Morya.

Go outside with your statue of Lord Ganesha and ask someone to hold a coconut so you can offer it to the Ganpati Bappa and shatter it all at once.

Submerge the Coconut in Bappa afterwards. Perform Ganesh Aarti at the Visarjan location one last time.

Remove the ornamentation from the statue of Lord Ganesha, properly dispose of it, and perform Ganesh Visarjan in the water body.

How To Celebrate Ganesh Visarjan

The Ganesh Visarjan 2025 festival spans 10 days and involves decorating Ganpati idols, offering prayers in private homes and public temples, performing the Ganesh visarjan aarti, and observing various other customs.

The Ganesh Visarjan refers to this. People attend both public celebrations and gatherings at friends’ and family’s homes during the 10 days.

People schedule cultural events with music and dance performances, and they enjoy the celebrations.

Along with participating in other charitable activities, devotees give food and clothing to the less fortunate.

Sum Up

The final thought for Ganesh or Ganpati Visarjan 2025 is on the last day of Ganesh Visarjan; devotees immerse the Lord Ganesh idol in the river or lake. They also immerse Puja Kalash and other puja items in the water.

Several devotees offer worship to Ganesha in India or out of India as well with devotion.

They do not like to visarjan Ganesha and miss him. Hence, they take the soil of Visarjan, place it with coconut, and wrap it in red cloth.

Keeping these items at home ensures that Bappa will return next year. I pray that Lord Ganesha will grant you every success and wealth in life.

It is generally chanted in Sanskrit, which is an ancient language of India. Not just that, the vibration generated during its recitation is said to have transformative and purifying effects on the person who recites with absolute devotion.

With 99Pandit, today we will understand the Gayatri mantra in Sanskrit with its English translation and Hindi meaning. We will also discuss its origin, significance, and how it is chanted.

Historical Significance and Vedic Origins of the Gayatri Mantra

The Gayatri mantra is said to have originated 3000 years ago. It is mentioned in the Rigveda, precisely in Mandala 3, Sukta 62, Verse 10. The significance of this mantra can also be seen in the Yajurveda.

According to mythological stories, a Sage named Vishwamitra performed deep meditation and received the Gayatri Mantra as a form of blessing. The mantra is dedicated to Savitr, the solar god who offers the life-giving energies of the Sun.

Savitr here refers to the divine force that helps life grow and maintain itself. The Gayatri Homam or Mantra is not just a prayer to seek guidance but also an acknowledgement of the inner light and higher awareness that exist in every human being.

Gayatri Mantra is referred to as the mother of all mantras since it obeys all the Chhandas. Chhanda merely refers to the verse or meter to measure the mantra according to lyrics, grammar, music, etc.

It is generally recited during the Sandhyavandanam, a sunrise, noon, or sunset prayer. The mantra also plays a key role in Vedic education. For many individuals, reciting the mantra 108 times brings balance in inner harmony and cosmic order.

Why is the Gayatri Mantra So Powerful?

Gayatri Mantra is not just a simple chant like many others. The mantra is an effective way for people to connect with the divine energies of the universe.

It is believed that whoever recites the Gayatri Mantra enables their higher intellectual energies. They can also focus better, retain knowledge, and be more in sync with the divine.

The mantra is so effective that it represents the summary of all four Vedas, which have been passed down for decades. Dedicated to Savitri, it brings the light of the sun to guide people from the pathway of darkness to righteousness.

Moreover, it is not only beneficial to the person who rectifies it but also creates a positive and calm environment around them.

Might you have heard of this line from our acharyas: “Gayantam trayate yasmāt, Gāyatrī tyabhidhīyate”. It is a pretty straightforward phrase with a profound meaning; anyone who recites this mantra leads towards the realisation of God.

In Gurukul (ancient schools), the guru (teacher) taught the Gayatri mantra as the first lesson to students. It is considered the core of knowledge and education. By all this, you might get an idea about the power this mantra holds, leading you towards a better and peaceful life.

Sanskrit Lyrics of the Gayatri Mantra

All of them come together, which celebrates the strength of the Supreme Deity and thanks the Sun, which represents knowledge and spiritual awakening.

“Bhéo” is divine light or effulgence, which cleanses and illuminates the mind and soul. “Devasya” is “of the divine one.” “Dhīmahi” is “we meditate on.” Here, the practitioner is concentrating on the divine light and seeking cleansing and spiritual wisdom.

5. “धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्” (Dhiyo Yo Naḥ Prachodayāt)

The term “Dhiyo” translates to wisdom, perception, and intelligence. “Yo” refers to who, and “Nah” refers to our. Then, it is followed by the word “Prachodayat,” which means may He guide or may He inspire.

The individual who is performing at the conclusion of the mantra is calling the divine with the prayer to call in the hope of directing, revealing, and bestowing wisdom so that one may lead to spiritual illumination and brilliance.

I will tell you more secrets about his powerful weapon, Sudarshan Chakra. Who gave him this auspicious thing, and why has it become such a talkable topic?

What is the Sudarshan Chakra?

The meaning of Sudarshan chakra is derived from two words: SU, which means auspicious, and Darshan, which means vision. This is always in motion according to Hindu mythology and is one of the great weapons.

This is said to be built from the combined energy of lord vishnu, Brahma, and Mahesh (lord shiva). Sudarshan chakra is the most powerful weapon among others, and it contains two spinning discs with sharp spikes on their edges. It rotates in opposite directions.

The Hindu legends say that Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu used the chakra on many occasions to secure good against evil. It was utilized as an ultimate weapon of order, law, and protection to conquer enemies. The enemies are asuras, vikrutatma, and rakshas.

The chakra is unique, as there are multiple fascinating, legendary stories associated with its use. There are legends involved in the creation of these divine and special discs.

Who Gave the Sudarshan Chakra to Lord Krishna?

According to the beliefs that no one gave the Sudarshan Chakra to lord krishna. But it was a magical weapon that naturally belonged to him.

From his childhood, Krishna has embodied multiple divine qualities that others are able to see, and control over the Sudarshan Chakra was one of those powers.

During his lifetime, he used the chakra to protect his followers and beat evil powers for multiple reasons.

Another story about the Sudarshan Chakra that the lord achieved from the deities. There are different stories connected to how the lord received the weapon; one of them is this:

Handed Over by Parsurama During the Mahabharata

As per the Mahabharat legend, Lord Parshuram once met lord krishna in the Saandipani Ashram to give him the Sudarshan Chakra. He presented the formidable weapon to the lord after reciting a fitting mantra.

The unique gift was granted to the deity because he could only exert it. No one else could have had the power to control it other than him.

A Present from Lord Agni

Lord Krishna and Arjun help the fire lord Agni to burn the Khandav forest. Hence, he gave the deity the Sudarshan Chakra and a Koumodaki mace in return for help.

Legends Behind the Sudarshan Chakra Origin

There are numerous stories associated with the origin of Sudarshan Chakra:

Viswakarma’s Creation

Sudarshan Chakra was built by the great lord Vishwakarma, according to popular belief. He is the celestial architect of divine belongings.

The story revolves around the daughter of Vishwakarna, Sanjana, who married Suryaputra, the radiant sun god. He is also considered one of the most powerful deities in Hinduism.

Yet, the extreme brightness and heat of the sun made it tough for Sanjana to be close to him conveniently. Worrying for the daughter’s well-being, Vishwakarma interfered and lessened the sun’s brilliance.

He created three remarkable creations from the excess of sun dust. Pushpak Viman was the one who developed a celestial flying chariot.

The second creation was lord shiva’s sacred trident, which indicates his cosmic strength. And the most significant creation was the Sudarshan Chakra, which is a circular disc of supreme potency.

It was then granted to lord Vishnu, who would use the weapon to protect dharma and defeat evil forces.

Shiva’s Gift

Another story associated with the Sudarshan Chakra creation is that the deities faced severe suffering from the demons, and hence sought lord vishnu’s help.

Then lord vishnu realized that he could not defeat the demons by himself. He then sought lord shiva, who was completely immersed in meditation.

Lord Vishnu initiated a prayer and recited without disturbing lord shiva’s charm, offering 1000 lotus blossoms regularly to Shiva.

He waited patiently for years until Shiva got out of his meditation. Lord Shiva was so impressed by the complete faithfulness of Lord Vishnu that He commissioned an experiment on him by secretly taking away one of the lotus flowers of his offering.

Lord Vishnu did not raise concerns when he found out that one of the flowers was nonexistent. With a single thought, he pulled out one of his own eyes and laid it down beside the holy fires as a sacrificial offering.

Impressed by the action of Vishnu, lord Shiva came before him and presented him with the divine gift, which was the Sudarshan Chakra.

This is a mighty word that had the capability of cutting through ignorance, illusion, and evil, and thus was a very useful device to Vishnu in his cosmic tasks.

Importance & Use of Sudarshan Chakra

In Hindu mythology, the place of Sudarshan Chakra is significant in multiple sacred scriptures such as the Vedas and the Puranas.

This is not only a weapon but also a symbol of the protection of harmony and order in the universe while battling darkness and evil.

Both the deity lord Krishna and Vishnu wielded the chakra for different purposes. But the chakra played an important role during Samundra Manthan. It helped to split the spiritual mountain, Mandrachal Parvat.

Another important use of it consists of lord vishnu using it to divide Goddess Sati’s body into multiple pieces. It reduces the sorrow of lord shiva and directs the creation of revered ‘Shakti peethas’.

Shukra chakra was used by the lord krishna when Shishupal did unlimited sins, putting an end to his bad sins.

At one time, when Arjun was boasting to his enemy that his bridge of arrows could not be broken, even by Hanuman, Krishna, in a covert action, supported the bridge with his Sudarshan Chakra with the help of his friend.

In one of Sage Durvas‘ stories, the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu was aimed at or pointed at the Sage since he undeservedly gave a curse to King Ambarish.

The act of seeking forgiveness from the Sagforto king resulted in the withdrawal of the Chakra by Vishnu only.

Gorakshanath is the stopper of the Sudarshan Chakra, in one of the holy books of the Nath sect.

A Tale Associated with the Sudarshan Chakra

Another story that is connected with the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu is that he used it to kill the demon Rahu, who had masked himself as one of the lords who wanted to consume the immortal elixir during the ocean churning.

Lord Vishnu recognised him and released the Sudarshan Chakra on him, which beheaded him. Due to which he had already consumed the poison of the ocean churning, by then the body separated from his head continued to live and was called Ketu.

There are different examples of lord krishna, who was the incarnation of lord vishnu, also used the chakra. For example, he concealed the sun using the Sudarshan Chakra. It caused a faux sunset and simplified the killing of Jayadratha. He even used it to behead Shishupal when he offended the lord.

Unique Qualities of the Sudarshan Chakra

  • Sudarshan chakra is considered the most powerful element in the world, and it is used to destroy negativity and evil energies. It follows the order of only the one who carries it.
  • It spans great distances and comes only once the order is fulfilled.
  • The only option to stop the weapon is to entirely disable it. That is when the lord interferes and bestows one.
  • Connected with two rows of 10 million spikes, it moves in the opposite direction. It’s powerfully sharp, which means it can cut any material in the world with so many sharp edges.
  • Another quality of this is that it is in motion forever. It stands as a sign of the wheel of time (kala chakra).

Conclusion

In the Hindu puranas and Vedas, Sudarshan Chakra holds a special place. Both deities, lord krishna and lord vishnu, utilized the weapon multiple times.

But the answer to who gave the Sudarshan Chakra to lord krishna is quite easy: no one. It naturally belongs to him.

Lord Krishna also used it against Shishupal to punish him for his wrongdoings during the great war of the Mahabharata and to help his friend, Arjuna.

It describes Krishna’s role in Hindu mythology as a defender and protector of righteousness by indicating the cosmic management and divine justice.

The importance of this auspicious giving to lord krishna resonates for generations, motivating us to maintain righteousness in our lives.

In ancient Hindu scriptures, Mahalaya describes one of the stages in which Pitru Paksha falls at the end of the Ashwin fortnight during the new moon day.

The gloomy fortnight, also known as Mahalaya Paksha, takes place between September and October.

Mahalaya Amavasya occurs during this time as the New Moon. Performing Tarpanam during this holy fortnight is a great way to comfort one’s deceased ancestors.

Amavasya falls on the last day of this fortnight, and it is the most important day in the year for such rites.

For departed family members who passed away on Amavasya Tithi, Poornima Tithi, or Chaturdashi Tithi, Hindus perform Amavasya Tithi Shraddha.

Then let’s go explore more details about the Mahalaya Amavasya and how it is performed by the pandit.

What Do You Understand By Mahalaya Amavasya

Mahalaya Amavasya, also known as Pitru Moksha Amavasya, Pitru Amavasya, or Sarvapitri Amavasya, is a traditional day in the Hindu calendar.

The custom is intended to honor our ancestors, or Pitra. On this day, all the family members offer to their past generations to express thanks and thank them for all the life they have given us.

According to the Amavasyant calendar followed in South India, Pitru Amavasya is observed in the Bhadrapada month on New Moon Day (Amavasya).

But, North Indians follow the Purnimant calendar, and according to it, Mahalaya Amavasya is observed in Ashwin; during September-October according to the Gregorian Calendar.

The new moon day, Mahalaya Paksha, also known as Mahalaya Amavasya, is observed on the fifteenth day of Sharadh.

According to Hinduism, this is the most crucial fortnight for comforting our ancestors.

It is also referred to as Pitru Paksha Amavasya or Sarvapitri Amavasya, and it is the ideal day to perform Tarpanam, or ancestral rituals, for departed family members.

Family members might do their shradh rites or pind daan on Mahalaya Amavasya if they are unaware of the date of their ancestors’ passing.

Also, it will guarantee that the ancestors are content and will bless family members for the tranquility and richness they have.

As per the belief, there are many histories and legends related to the Mahalaya Amavasya.

But still, the purpose of performing Mahalaya Amavasya is to express gratitude to ancestors and provide them with moksha in heaven and at home.

Story Behind Mahalaya Amavasya

The Mahabharata is an epic that mentions the legend of Mahalaya Amavasya. Lord Karna passed away and ascended to heaven, and it is said that someone provided him with Jewellery, stones, and diamonds to eat.

He was taken aback by this and sought Lord Indra’s guidance to allay his confusion. Lord Indra responded that although Karna gave generously and generously throughout his lifetime, he omitted to perform the Anna-Daan act for his forefathers.

He requested a chance to return to the mortal realm to make apologies. After being granted permission to return for 16 days, he gave food and water to his forefathers, then he went back to his heavenly home.

Since that time, people have referred to the period as Pitru Paksha or Mahalaya Paksha.

Mahalaya Amavasya is the ideal day to memorialize any of your loved ones who passed away violently and unexpectedly, whether they did it by accident, murder, or suicide.

If you worship with faith and make your offerings to them with love and gratitude on this day, you can pacify them. You will be performing Shradh and offering sacrifices on Mahalaya Amavasya.

You can bring their souls gati and tranquillity by doing Shradh on Mahalaya Amavasya and making offerings (forward momentum).

Also, this can foster joyful and peaceful relationships within the family. After performing this ritual, you are also likely to experience physical and mental health benefits.

Significance Of Mahalaya Amavasya

The energy of spirit beings is thought to be present in the atmosphere during the Mahalaya Paksha fortnight.

To accept sacrifices from their offspring, departed souls travel from Pitru Loka to Earth. During this period, if you do rituals and prayers, you can gain special virtue.

Everyone can show their thanks to their deceased ancestors by performing Mahalaya Tarpanam on Sarvapitri Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya, the day of memory observed worldwide.

Mahalaya Amavasya

The Mahalaya Amavasya defines the meaning that Maha means = great, Alaya means = a place, Ama means = together and Vasya means = to reside.

Hence, this term signifies the time when ancestors visit the earth to get offerings from their families.

But in case you are not able to perform the shraddha ritual on Amavasya tithi, Poornima tithi, and Chaturdashi, you should perform it on Mahalaya Amavasya to appease their ancestors.

Mahalaya Amavasya is also known as Sarva Pitra Moksha Amavasya. The lunar period of the fortnight is very important for spiritual practices.

On the day of Mahalaya amavasya, the sun and moon exert gravitational force on the earth. Because of this, the powers of all beings are exerted upwards. This forces heightened awareness.

People may also offer the offerings made on Mahalaya Amavasya to those who pass away without having children.

Individuals who didn’t perform charitable deeds or give food donations won’t find solace in Pitri Loka. These rituals can also be beneficial to these people’s souls.

People can appease the dead whose dates of passing are unknown and for whom they cannot conduct the annual Shraddh on Mahalaya Amavasya.

As Per Astrology Mahalaya Amavasya

Based on astrology the sun planet enters into the zodiac sign Virgo, and the Mahalaya amavasya period starts.

To know about the actions and karmas of previous birth, you see the fifth house position in kundali. In the kaal purush kundali, the fifth house hosts the sun, indicating one’s ancestry.

kanyāgate savitari pitarau yānti vai sutāna,
amāvasyā dine prāpte gṛhadvāraṃ samāśritā:
śraddhābhāve svabhavanaṃ śāpaṃ datvā brajanti te॥

It simply implies that the departed ancestors’ souls visit their sons, grandsons, and offspring when the planet Sun enters the Virgo sign.

Ancestors may potentially curse their descendants and offspring if the Shradh ceremony isn’t performed during Ashwini Amavasya.

This is why performing Tarpan with a mixture of fruits, flowers, and water, as well as giving to charity and food donations, is necessary.

Those with Pitru Dosha in their kundli are those who don’t perform the Shradh ceremony and don’t honor their ancestors.

Mahalaya Amavasya Procedure (Vidhi)

The pandit for Mahalaya Amavasya conducts the rituals for the deceased. On this day, people perform tarpan and shraddha rites to honor family members who passed away on the “Chaturdashi,” “Amavasya,” or “Purnima” dates.

The observer rises early on the day of Pitra Moksha Amavasya and completes the morning rites.

On this day, they welcome a Brahmin to their home and dress in yellow. The family’s oldest man participates in the shraddha ceremony.

Mahalaya Amavasya

The ceremonial watcher washes the Brahmin’s feet and gives them a spotless seat when they enter. Hindu scriptures outline a certain seating arrangement.

The Brahmins of Pitra Paksha and Matru Paksha sit facing the north, while the Brahmins of Deva Paksha sit facing the east.

On Mahalaya Amavasya, ancestors, or “pitra,” are honored. They are worshipped with dhoop, diya, and flowers on this day.

To appease the ancestors, water and grain are also provided. A sacred thread is worn on the right shoulder, and a donation of a splint is made.

After completing the puja rites, the organizers serve specially prepared food for this occasion to the Brahmins. The Brahmins are seated with sesame seeds, and devotees cover the floor.

On this dedicated day, family members spend time remembering their ancestors. Chanting mantras seeks the blessings of the ancestors.

On this day, individuals give thanks to their ancestors who helped make their lives possible. Additionally, they request an apology from their ancestors.

Benefits Of Mahalaya Amavasya

Family members will benefit from performing Mahalaya Amavasya for their departed ancestors in the following ways:

  • Offering them moksha or redemption aids in the satiation of the restless spirits.
  • During Mahalaya Amavasya, ancestors’ blessings assist in resolving family members’ difficulties with relationships, careers, health, and finances.
  • Family members receive blessings for good fortune and a prosperous life from their souls.
  • Eliminate all ancestral bad luck and karma, and assist family members in achieving success in all areas of their lives.
  • Get rid of all the doshas and negative karma you accrued for not performing shradh in the past.

Why One Should Perform Mahalaya Amavasya?

The Mahalaya Amavasya in Hinduism organizes ceremonies for the ancestors after their death.

The Hindu scriptures state that when the soul leaves the earth, it reaches Pitra lok after three days.

The soul undergoes a process of up to 13 days, followed by the performance of Terahvi. Pind daan and tarpan vidhi ensure the moksha of the departed soul one month after death.

Who Should Perform Mahalaya Amavasya

  1. People who want to show their gratitude for having been born into this life and to show their appreciation for it must attend this ceremony.
  2. Those who have Pitru Dosha must observe this day to purge it.
  3. Those who have persistent, never-ending difficulties in life and suffer from illnesses, injuries, and loans should perform the rituals.

Do’s And Don’ts

  • Family members must make shradh or tarpan to the departed ancestors to eradicate ancestral doshas and bad karma.
  • The shradh can help remove the karma that keeps the deceased’s soul from achieving moksha.
  • To assist their ancestors in finding redemption, observers must plan a puja.
  • To receive blessings from the ancestors, one must give water to the Peepal tree.

Conclusion

Mahalaya Amavasya is, in general, a day honoring your ancestors. In actuality, it is a gesture of appreciation towards the ancestors and earlier generations.

To obtain blessings from departed family members’ spirits and assist them in achieving moksha or salvation, it is important to perform Pitru Paksha or Mahalaya Amavasya Puja.

To ensure that the observer or puja performer follows the rules, they need to be an expert in performing all the rituals and mantras.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2025: Significance

Nirjala Ekadashi is regarded as one of the most significant and essential among the twenty-four Ekadashis observed in a year.

This Ekadashi refers to a dry fast and a prohibition on eating anything at all during the day. One of the most challenging Ekadashi fasts to observe is Nirjala Ekadashi.

Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Pandava Ekadashi, Bhimseni Ekadashi, or Bhima Ekadashi as a result of a legend connected to it.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2025

Bhimsen, the second Pandava brother, could not control his appetite and did not keep the Ekadashi fast.

Draupadi and the other Pandava sisters used to keep the Ekadashi fast, except Bhima.

To overcome his lack of willpower and irreverence for Lord Vishnu, Bhima met Maharishi Vyasa.

Sage Vyasa advised Bhima to observe one Nirjala Ekadashi to make up for not keeping all of the Ekadashi fastings in a year.

Drik Panchang advises devotees who are unable to observe all twenty-four Ekadashi fasts in a year to instead observe a single Nirjala Ekadashi fast, which has all the same benefits as the twenty-four Ekadashi fasts in a year.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2025 Puja Vidhi

The puja vidhi of Nirjala Ekadashi 2025 is to wake up early in the morning and take a shower.

If you are observing the fast, wear clean yellow clothes and sprinkle Gangajal over yourself.

While chanting the holy mantras, offer water to Lord Surya. Also, offer flowers, fruits, Akshat, Chandan, and Durva to Lord Vishnu.

One should chant the following mantra for Lord Vishnu, “Om namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya,” at least 108 times using a tulsi mala.

|| ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय नमः ||
Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya namah

Let’s discuss the right puja vidhi to perform on Nirjala Ekadashi:

  • This Ekadashi’s customs are very dissimilar from those of the others. Devotees practice an absolute fast on this day, during which they don’t even drink water.
  • The scorching Indian summer is when this Ekadashi falls. People think it’s quite difficult to see this quickly.
  • This fast lasts for roughly 24 hours. It begins at dawn on Nirjala Ekadashi and ends at dawn the following day.
  • Nirjala Ekadashi preparation begins on Dashmi, the day before Nirjala Ekadashi. The followers worship in the evening and eat one meal—and it contains no rice. Please be aware that you are not permitted to include rice in this meal.
  • People make prayers to Lord Vishnu, for whom Ekadashi is sacred, like the other Ekadashi.
  • Devotees are permitted to offer a single, tiny drop of water as part of the Achamana ceremony. Before breaking the pledge, one can consume that much water.
  • On the occasion of the Nirjala Ekadashi, many devotees also donate food items, clothing, umbrellas, water pitchers, hand fans, deities, etc.

Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Hindu Traditions claim that the sage Vyasa explained this Ekadasi to Bhima, the second Pandava brother. The Ekadasi is also known as Bhim Ekadashi or Pandav Ekadasi as a result.

The Mahabharata and Padma Purana both discuss the significance of Nirjala Ekadasi.

The Pandavas, except Pandav Putra Bhima, claim to have observed all of the Ekadasis.

Bhima, who had a gluttonous appetite and could not endure hunger, used to forgo the Ekadasi fast.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2025

Bhima, however, desired to observe fasting while simultaneously craving food. So he asked Sage Vyasa to find a route out so that he could observe quickly.

Sage Vyasa, however, suggested Nirjala Ekadasi, which includes all the advantages of observing twenty-four Ekadasis since eating and fasting were not possible.

To reap the benefits of observing all 24 Ekadasis, Sage Vyasa recommended that Bhima observe this Nirjala Ekadasi fasting during the brilliant fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Jyeshta month.

By observing Nirjala Ekadashi, Bhim was able to reap the rewards of all the other Ekadasis.

Paran Of Nirjala Ekadashi 2025

The word Parana implies the ending of a fast. The devotees finish the Ekadashi Parana on the day after the fast, after sunrise.

Throughout Dwadashi Tithi, one must practice Parana unless it ends before dawn. Within Dwadashi, Parana’s absence is like a transgression.

Parana practice is not appropriate during Hari Vasara. One should wait for Hari Vasara to end before breaking the fast.

The first day of the fourth day of Dwadashi Tithi is called Hari Vasara. Pratahkal is the most popular time to break the fast.

One should not recommend breaking the fast during Madhyanha. If, for any reason, one cannot break the fast during Pratahkal, one should do so after Madhyahna.

Sometimes fasting is encouraged on two consecutive Ekadashi days. Smartha is suggested to observe fasting just on the first day with her family.

Sanyasis, widows, and those pursuing Moksha prescribe the second Ekadashi fast, the alternate one.

The day of Vaishnava Ekadashi coincides with Smartha’s alternate Ekadashi fasting guideline.

Devoted followers looking for Lord Vishnu’s love and adoration are advised to fast on both days of Ekadashi.

Benefits Of Nirjala Ekadashi

The devotee observing the Nirjala Ekadashi fast will get benefits, as some of the benefits are mentioned:

  • Brings all the advantages of observing 24 Ekadashi fasts in a single year.
  • Benefit from all of Ekadasis’ virtues.
  • Freedom from all past and present life sins.
  • Visitations from Vishnu’s abode, Vaikunta, after death.
  • Assistance in achieving renown, success, money, and a long life.

Conclusion

Hence, I hope you have got the required information for Nirjala Ekadashi. If you are going to observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast, you should remember the rules of this vrat.

Devotees keep Nirjala Ekadashi fast without water and food, and they consider this the most auspicious and toughest Ekadashi vrat among all 24 Ekadashis.
